Q What is this brochure all about?
As enthusiasts for the micropubs of Kent, we realised that the majority of them are easily accessible from a single train line that circles the County and runs in and out of London. We wanted to help put the micropubs on the map by developing this brochure and publicising how easy it is to visit so many of them.
Q What exactly is a Micropub?
We have taken the widest definition of a micropub so as to be as inclusive as possible. Our definition in the guide is 'Micropubs offer a simple service of great beer, usually with a selection of ciders, wines and snacks, in quiet and unpretentious surroundings'. Some will argue with this definition, but we believe that this is what the public generally like about micropubs and, as no two are exactly the same, it pretty well covers them all.
Q Are all Kent Micropubs included?
No. This is not a guide to every micropub in Kent, but to those that are easily accessible by train. All included micropubs are within 10 minutes of the Station, which we believe fulfils that criteria. A handful are included that are further away, but these are indicated in the Guide. This was only done when there was a lack of micropubs closer to the Station, and will be dropped in future editions if other pubs open that are closer. There are many other great micropubs that are well worth a visit, so we hope that you will use this guide to explore further.
Q Is this a comprehensive list of those within 10 minutes of a Station?
That was the intention. We now realise that a few were missed out. These are:
Ales of the Unexpected, 105 Canterbury Road, Margate CT9 5AX
Fez, 40 High Street, Margate CT9 1DS
Four Candles Alehouse, 1 Sowell Street, St Peter's, Broadstairs CT10 2AT
Corner Tap, 37 Preston Street, Faversham ME13 8PE
Mash Tun, 3 Bench Street, Dover CT16 1JH
Barbers Arms, 169 Bridge Street, Wye TN25 5DP
Check out https://whatpub.com/ for opening times.
These will be included in future editions. Please let us know if we have missed any others.
